To understand the difference between Cause/Effect relationships and correlations. To understand how and why major events in history are connected and intertwined. To research a major event from U.S. history in order to understand why it is significant and how it relates to other major events. To understand the features of a feature article and podcast and to be able to create a feature article or podcast about your major event in history.
Project Requirements:
To present the 5 W's of your major event in class. To write/peer edit/revise a feature article or a podcast. To have at least three drafts in your Writing Portfolio. To present a polished version of your feature article or podcast on Media Night, as well as posting it online to our Team Featurecast from the Past web page.
Specific Concepts Learned:
1. One concept I learned in this project was cause and effect relationships versus correlations. Both cause/effect and a correlation means the two things relate to one another, but cause and effect means that one of the events came before the other and caused or helped the other to happen. And correlations mean that the two events are similar just by coincidence. For example the Wright brothers inventing the first plane has a cause and effect relationship with the first rocketship built because without the knowledge to make a plane we wouldn't know how to make a rocketship. On the other hand, their is a correlation between the first plane and the Oregon Trails because they were both new ways to travel.
2. Another concept that I learned with this project was why the Wright brothers were and are significant. I learned that without them life would be a lot different. We would have to travel by boat or car and it would take a long time for our mail to be delivered. We would also have to fight all our wars on land and man wouldn't have been on the moon yet.
Challenges:
1. One of my challenges was researching information. This was hard because we weren't given an evebt, we were given two people and we had to pick what we wanted to focus on. All of the information I found was all correct but it was about all over the place with different parts of their lives. What helped me overcome this was a book because they author had chosen what he thought was important and it was easy to go from their.
2. Another challenge was actually making it on illustrator. (Most people just did it on pages but we did it the hard way. haha.) James helped me with this since hes really good at technology. I think it ended up looking very proffesional.
Real-World Significance:
I think the Real-World significance is kind of what i said earlier, juat how much we use airplanes today. We don't even think about it. People use it for everything; businness, vacations, just everything.
